Membership Options
Full Membership
- Open to the entire faculty of the University of Minnesota.
- Based on commitment to be involved in a committee/interest group.
- Full members are eligible for all IEM member benefits (see Benefits of Membership below).
- Full membership is granted once an application has been submitted and reviewed.
Benefits of Full Membership:
- Facilitation of collaborative research and networking of investigators from commercial and academic backgrounds.
- Access and participation in projects, including educational venues and the development of outreach activities and services.
- Reduced rates in IEM Core Labs (when developed).
- Reduced rates in IEM sponsored symposia/programs/outreach courses.
- Actively contribution to the direction of the IEM.
Available by request and approval:
- Research and graduate student support.
- Space in IEM.
- Sponsorship of visiting scientists and lecturers.
- Assistance with grant preparation.
Responsibilities of Full Membership:
- Participate in IEM committees/interest groups.
- Attend of IEM operations meetings.
- Participate in BME seminar.
- List IEM on publications related to biomedical engineering.
- Serve as program/lab/department liaison
Affiliate Membership
- Open to members of the faculty of the University of Minnesota, or the community.
- Affiliate member are individuals involved with BME activities but unable or unwilling to participate more fully in the activities of the IEM.
- Affiliate members can derive benefit from IEM sponsored programs or resources through collaboration with a full member.
- Affiliate members can become full members at any time, if they agree to the commitments of full membership (see Responsibilities of Full Membership below).
- Affiliate membership is granted once an application has been submitted and reviewed.

Responsibilities of Affiliate Membership:
- Support the overall activities and objectives of the IEM.
- Participate in conferences, symposia and meetings (occasionally).
- Serve as program/lab/department liaison.
- List IEM on publications related to biomedical engineering.
